    International Nursing Honor Society Inducts New Members

    Pi Theta board members with new Eleanor Mann School of Nursing inductees.

    The Pi Theta Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau inducted 28 new members in a ceremony on April 14.

    Sigma Theta Tau is an international honor society for nurses, administrators, educators, researchers, policymakers and entrepreneurs. The almost 102-year-old society has over 100,000 active members and is one of the largest nursing organizations in the world.

    The induction ceremony was held at the Inn at Carnall Hall, with Sarah Bemis, assistant director of the Eleanor Mann School of Nursing in the the College of Education and Health Professions, as the keynote speaker. Lori Murray, Pi Theta chapter president, presented the scholarship and research awards.

    The spring 2024 Bachelor of Science in Nursing inductees included Alondra Apodaca, Delaney Barnes, Madelyn Bowden, Ashley Colvin, Alexandra Dierks, Kathryn Farmer, Morgan Fincham, Halle Flint, Kayla Hagedorn, Sarah Hancock, Kristin Hartley, Jenna Hopper, Dora Kopoi, Kourtnie Laird, Melody Owens, Lenica Pagdanganan, Anna Parrent, Elise Purchatzke, Bryn Shirley, Katelyn Smith, Olivia Thomas, Melinda Thornton, Reagan Valenta, Brecklyn Walton, Teresa Weaver, Sydney Wingo and Joseph Wiltshire.

    The spring 2024 Nurse Leader inductee was Fernanda Zayas.

    The Pi Theta board of directors includes Lori Murray, president; Meghan Young, president-elect; Sara Sugg, vice president; Peggy Lee, secretary; Kim Oelke, treasurer; BJ Garrett, counselor; and Jeanice Ball, webmaster.

    "To be a member of Sigma Theta Tau indicates the highest honor in nursing," Murray said. "Sigma offers resources and opportunities for EMSON B.S.N. and graduate nursing students to develop as nurse leaders and scholars."
